As a leading manufacturer of the highest quality, best value candles and candle accessories for fragrance and home décor, Candle-lite needed brighter ideas for its distribution operations.
The Challenge:
Candle-lite, a division of Lancaster Colony® Corporation, needed a long-range distribution master plan to accommodate unprecedented growth. In addition to increased distribution capacity, the company sought to enhance customer service levels.
The Solution:
The initial phase of the multi-year, multi-phased supply chain strategy included a new, 250,000 sq. ft. distribution center in Leesburg, Ohio. A unique automated pallet delivery conveyor system is erected over a railroad track and through a new 150-foot long bridge, providing access to adjacent facilities. FORTE performed a warehouse management system (WMS) needs analysis, and provided vendor evaluation and selection. The WMS was integrated with the material handling system utilizing FORTE's Automation Director™ warehouse control system (WCS) software.
The Result:
The long-range plan removed growth constraints within distribution operations, improved order accuracy and resulted in much faster order turnaround time.
