Vera Bradley
Now the only thing rivaling the beauty of Vera Bradley’s distinctive selection of cotton-quilted bags and accessories is the seamless performance of its distribution center.
The Challenge:
Fast-growing demand, coupled with significant seasonal peaks and valleys, had outstripped both the capacity and processes of the existing DC. Cycle times were too long, labor costs too high due to excessive manual processes, and order accuracy was a challenge, especially in picking. Visibility of orders in process was low.
The Solution:
FORTE designed a new 200,000 sq. ft. distribution center and integrated WMS with a material handling system utilizing FORTE's Automation Director™ WCS.
The Result:
| 99.5%picking accuracy | 25%increase in labor productivity |
Order fulfillment was reduced from two days to only 10 minutes, with peak order processing increasing from 1,500 to 3,000 orders per day. During peak seasonal periods, 140,000 items per day are shipped.
Picking accuracy improved from 89% to 99.5%, and visibility of in-process order status is now available at the item level.
Labor productivity has increased by 25% while training time for seasonal help has been dramatically reduced.
The real beauty is that the overall systems investment paid for itself in less than two years.
The project scope and timeframe were aggressive and ambitious. FORTE met our high expectations from the outset and continues to be a partner in successfully meeting our supply chain objectives. With FORTE’s assistance, we have transformed our supply chain from a constraint to an enabler of our growth strategy.
