Works With Lenox on Plans to Complete New Automated Distribution Center
February 4, 2003 – After working with Lenox in the evaluation
and critique of their current distribution operations, FORTE will participate
in site location, selection and configuration of a new automated distribution
center. The new Central Distribution Center (CDC) will be located in
Hagerstown, MD. It represents a consolidation of eight former distribution
and manufacturing facilities.
FORTE will provide Planning, Design, and Implementation services for
the new CDC. Automated picking and shipping systems will be utilized.
Lenox will also engage FORTE’s WMS Integration
Services for key functional areas.
The highly automated CDC will be integrated with Manhattan Associates’
PkMS warehouse management software. FORTE’s CONTINUIMi™
DC Automation Director Module will be used to control the material
handling automation and interface with Manhattan’s PkMS.
FORTE will relocate existing equipment and add four high-speed sorters,
four full case pick modules and four two-level split case pick modules.
Pallet stretch wrapping equipment, carton weighing equipment, and pallet
build stations will also be added. In addition, a sortation mezzanine
and a 50,000+ pallet position VNA storage rack system will be implemented.
Split case picking to totes for customer orders are automatically
routed
through 4 two-level high pick modules.
The new CDC will service customers at lower costs, with the highest
possible level of service while possessing the ability to handle forecasted
growth.
FORTE is a solutions-driven company with a proprietary approach to
providing world-class supply chain consulting engineering, design/build,
and continuous process improvement services under a true single-source
